97 Physicians, Advanced Practice Providers Receive 2023 Award for Carolina Care Excellence
Each year, UNC Hospitals administers the Press Ganey Medical Practice survey to solicit feedback from patients. The survey asks our patients about their likelihood of recommending their provider’s practice to their friends and family.
This year, 97 of the 202 highest recommended UNC physicians and advanced practice providers are from the Department of Medicine.
Structural Heart Team Implants First Transcatheter Tricuspid Valve Replacement Device
For the first time at the University of North Carolina, cardiologists were able to implant a percutaneous transcatheter tricuspid valve replacement device to treat severe tricuspid valve regurgitation.
One of only around 50 sites in the U.S. participating in the TRISCEND II clinical trial, experts at UNC believe this therapy is going to dramatically change treatment options for patients.

Meet Sarah Waters!
Sarah Waters, RN, MSN, ANP, has been a nurse practitioner in the Division of Cardiology for 13 years. She has helped develop a remote heart failure monitor program and enjoys connecting with patients. Outside of work, Sarah can be found on her farm with her two horses or playing/watching hockey!
Cassandra Donahue, RDN, LDN, CDCES, works in the Division of Endocrinology. Recently, she became a Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialist and hopes to become a published researcher. When not working Cassandra enjoys hanging with her pup Louie and trying new foods in the area!
Onyinye Iweala, MD, PhD, is an assistant professor of medicine in the Division of Rheumatology, Allergy and Immunology. Getting a PhD has been one of her goals since the 6th grade. Dr. Iweala is also a mom to three children and if she wasn’t a doctor she would want to sing in an a cappella group.
Mathew Sebastian, MD,PhD, joined the UNC IM Residency Program after studying the role of Pglyrp3 in regulation of Breast Cancer metastases at the University of Florida. His ultimate goal it to work as a physician-scientist in the field of Oncology. Mat also enjoys running, cooking.

It's spring and also a time dedicated to bringing awareness to the contributions made by older Americans, American Jews, and those with Asian and Pacific Island ancestry. Celebrate by educating yourself about the various populations/cultures or by participating in an activity.
